  • Arielle Bodner awarded Esther Marks Award

    The Esther Marks Award is presented each year at End of Year Shabbat and Awards Banquet to a senior who has held a leadership position with Hillel at Kent State. The 2015-16 recipient was Arielle Bodner.

    Arielle was honored due to her dedication to growing Jewish Life through her leadership in Hillel. During her time at Kent State, Arielle was a consistent volunteer, attended Birthright Israel, and held multiple leadership roles (Shabbat Intern 2013-14, Cohn at Nite Coordinator 2015-16)

    The following students were also honored at End of Year Shabbat and Awards Banquet:

    Dan Lammendola - Grad Student Dedication Award
    Michael Pollak - Eternal Light Award
    Sophia Witt - Voice of Israel


  • Yom Hashoah Commemoration on Campus

    Join Alpha Epsilon Pi and Hillel for the annual 24-hour name reading on campus May 4-5. We will meet at "The Rock" on Front Campus for a brief vigil and a silent walk to remember. The name reading will begin outside the MACC at 6:30PM on May 4 and will end at the same time on May 5.

  • Israel Week is March 28-April 1

    Kent Sate students, staff and faculty are all welcome to join us to a week of celebrating the independence of the Jewish state of Israel. This will be a week of cultural celebrations with lots of yummy food! Whether you like fashion, arts, history, cooking or just hanging out with friends- this is the week for you!

    So what is going on? We are so glad you asked. Here is the week’s schedule:

    Monday, March 28th

    10:00 am-2 pm Kent Student Center: Stop by our table on 1st floor, get your Israel Week T-shirt from the Students supporting Israel, as well as FREE swag and other surprises and enjoy a virtual trip in Tel Aviv-the city that never sleeps.

    6 pm -8 pm Rockwell Hall: Liraz Cohen: Israel Fashion from the Kibbutz to the City: Join Liraz Cohen in an exciting group conversation full of style and glam as she takes you through the path of the Israeli fashion story- From establishing the industry and until today.

    Plus: A personal styling session will follow the lecture.

    Tuesday, March 29th

    6-8 pm The Cohn Jewish Student Center: Sisterhood crafting: Hamsas and Hummus: Join Achoti sisters for an hour of crafting and noshing to create your own Hamsa! Bring your little, bring your big, and bring your creativity! Enjoy some Hummus, pitas as well as some other yammi snacks and celebrate Israel week with us!

    Wednesday, March 30th

    12 -2:30 pm: Lunch @ Hillel: Join us for our weekly FREE lunch at Hillel and this week: Shawarma.

    Thursday, March 31st

    (6:30 to 8:30 pm), The Cohn: Ori Shavit visits Kent State: Ori Shavit, food journalist, blogger and animal rights campaigner, will visit Kent State to host a lecture and cooking workshop on her vegan lifestyle!

    Ori Shavit is a food journalist, TED Talks speaker, blogger, and one of the most prominent and popular food critics in Israel. She publishes recipes on her blog,, teaches vegan cooking classes and promotes veganism all over Israel. Before her move to veganism in 2001, Shavit trained in cooking and wrote about the Israeli restaurant and food culture. She was an editor and writer at Al Hashulchan magazine, the leading gastronomic magazine in Israel. Shavit has worked in the media industry as a writer and producer for several Israeli newspapers and popular TV shows.

    Harness the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and register for the 14th Annual MLK Day of Service. January 18th, 2016 from 9-2 PM. We will be completing service projects at various locations around Portage and Summit counties.
