Tzedek (Social Justice) is one of Hillel at Kent State’s core values. We actively encourage our students to understand it’s their duty, as both Jews and humans, to involve themselves in social justice and helping to repair what’s wrong in the world. To that end, we organize multiple volunteer days, bring in speakers to talk about themes like homelessness and domestic violence, and regularly partner with other Kent State volunteer groups. Every year we also send our students on a week-long alternative break to places like New Orleans, Miami, and Los Angeles. Together with students from other Hillels around the country, our students provide community service and assistance to at-risk communities, rebuilding houses, refurbishing YMCAs, and mentoring young children.
